I joined the T.A. in 1938 in Renfrewshaire in the 77th Highland Field Artillery regiment of the 51st Highland Division.
At the beginning of WW2 because the regiment was over strength it was split into two regiments and I was transferred into the 128th (H) field regiment now part of the 9th Highland Division.
At the time of Dunkirk a major part of the 51st were captured at St Valery. This was a disaster to Scotland and so the 51st Highland Division had to be reformed. The 9th Highland Division personnel were used to make the new 51st Highland Division and the three artillery were the 126th, 127th and 128th.

Our training was in Scotland until shipped to the 8th Army in Egypt to take part in the battle of El Alamein and finally fighting our way to Tripoli and Tunis.
Then we went onwards to the invasion of Sicily and Italy. Then finally it was back to the U.K. and the Normandy D-Day invasion.
